West Hall seventh-grader wins county spelling bee

After many rounds of intense competition, Emily Wood won the Hall County School District spelling bee with the correct spelling of “goatee.”

Wood, a seventh-grader at West Hall Middle School, will go on to the regional, District 3 spelling bee with the first runner-up, Terri Hollander, fifth-grader at Sardis Enrichment School.

Roman Yaskulka, a sixth-grader at North Hall Middle, was second runner-up in the bee held at First Baptist Church.

The districtwide spelling bee will be a steppingstone to the state bee, sponsored by the Georgia Association of Educators. It will be held at 10 a.m. Feb. 28 at the Professional Development Center Building in Winder.

Gainesville City Schools will hold an elementary spelling bee Feb. 12 at 10 a.m. and a middle-school bee Feb. 13 at 1 p.m. Both bees will be held at Gainesville Middle School.

Regional events
