Qualifying closed Wednesday for a June 16 special election to replace late Lula City Councilwoman Vicky Chambers.

Walter J. Harris and Marvin B. Moore submitted papers to qualify for the Post 2 position.

Voting will take place 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at City Hall, 6055 Main St.

The winner will take office immediately and serve out the remainder of Chambers’ four-year term, which ends Dec. 31, 2017.

Chambers died Jan. 22 after a Jan. 10 wreck on Joe Chandler Road. Her Toyota Sienna was struck by a Honda Accord driven by Joshua W. Armour of Gainesville, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Armour faces several charges, including vehicular homicide.
