Tractor-trailer stuck on tracks, hit by train in Alto

No injuries were reported in a crash between a tractor-trailer and a freight train in Alto Wednesday afternoon, according to the Banks County Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

First responders arrived shortly after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Yonah Homer Road and Old Cornelia Highway. They found that the tractor-trailer had gotten stuck by the trailer landing gear on the rail crossing.

The driver was able to free the truck, but the truck stalled and was struck by the southbound train. The truck then overturned.

A resulting diesel fuel spill was contained on the roadway.

The scene was clear at about 3 a.m. Thursday.
