Tornado warning expires for Hall

Update: The tornado warning has expired.

Previous story:

A tornado warning has been issued for southwest Hall County, including Buford, Flowery Branch, Rest Haven and the Lanier Islands area.

The warning is in effect until 2:45 p.m. for these areas as well as north Gwinnett and central Forsyth counties.

Hall school officials said schools in the area are in tornado drill mode, meaning students have been moved to shelter. Schools are sending information to parents; school release times will be affected. Parents in car rider lines shuold go inside the school.

The Gainesville and Cumming campuses of the University of North Georgia are under the warning, and students have been warned to take shelter.

Expected damage could include damage or destruction of mobile homes, damage to roofs and windows as well as to vehicles and trees, according to the National Weather Service.

What to do if your in the line of danger:

• In a building: Move to a basement or interior room on the lowest floor and avoid windows.

• On the road: Drive away from the tornado if you can, if not park your vehicle and stay put or lie down in a low-lying area. Do not take shelter under highway overpasses.
