Times seeks V-J Day memories
Placeholder Image

One of the mostly highly celebrated days in history was Aug. 15, 1945, when the Allies announced the surrender of Japanese forces during World War II.

The surrender wouldn’t become official, however, until Sept. 2, 1945, when a formal signing took place in Tokyo Bay, Japan, aboard the USS Missouri.

The Times is planning a special look at the 65th anniversary of V-J Day and would like to hear from people who recall those world-changing times — from those serving in the Pacific Theater to those serving on the home front or eagerly awaiting loved ones’ return from the war. If you would like to share memories or memorabilia, please contact staff writer Jeff Gill at 770-718-3408 or jgill@gainesvilletimes.com.
