A 14-year-old girl was transported with critical injuries to an Atlanta-area hospital after a wreck Thursday night on Dawsonville Highway, police said.

Helen Hein, 38, of Gainesville, was driving a Toyota Corolla and was attempting to turn into the complex of restaurants that includes the Olive Garden, Buffalo Wild Wings and Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen between Beechwood Boulevard and Ahaluna Drive.

Gainesville Police Cpl. Jessica Van said Hein “failed to yield when making the left turn, causing impact” with a Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Jonathan Earnest, 34, of Dawsonville.

Helen Hein was transported and treated for minor injuries and released, but passenger Hallie Hein, 14, was transported to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston with critical injuries.

Earnest was uninjured.

Van said Hein was cited for failure to yield when making a left turn.
