A 16-year-old has been arrested in a string of incidents in South Hall county, after authorities say he was caught on a resident’s camera.
Reports of burglaries, trespassings and entering autos in the Tanners Mill and Weaver roads area “flooded” the Hall County Sheriff’s Office over the past three weeks, according to a news release, and in the past four days victims began reporting arson as well.
The arson charges stem from two separate fires set at two residences on Tanners Mill Road, sheriff’s office spokeswoman Nicole Bailes wrote via email.
“One structure being an outbuilding that sets near the residence and damaged the home and vehicle in the garage,” Bailes wrote. “The total damages estimated for that homeowner were upwards of $20,000.”
The second fire was also in an outbuilding, causing approximately $3,000 in damages.
Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office and Hall County Fire Services combed the area, speaking with residents.
The camera that captured the suspect's image was installed as a response to the incidents, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The teen, who Bailes said also lives on Tanners Mill Road, was arrested Tuesday and will appear before a juvenile judge Thursday. He is being housed at the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center.
Possible additional charges are pending.
“We are also looking at multiple mailboxes that were set on fire or actually blown up with aerial fireworks causing damages,” Bailes wrote. “We are still attempting to locate all victims to determine the number of mailboxes damaged.”
Anyone in the affected area who has information can contact the Sheriff’s Office at 770-531-6879 or fire department at 770-531-6838.
