Snow, sleet forecast in mountain counties overnight

Winter is hanging on with an icy grip as residents of the Northeast Georgia mountains could see some frozen precipitation tonight into Friday.

A winter weather advisory is in effect as the National Weather Service calls for rain turning to sleet or light snow tonight across Northeasst Georgia. Sleet and rain could turn to all snow after midnight in higher elevations and continue through Friday morning.

Some accumulation is possible, with as much as 1-2 inches in some areas and 3 inches above 2,500 feet.

The counties affected include Hall, Lumpkin, White, Dawson, Banks, Jackson, Gwinnett, Fannin, Union and Towns.

The rain is expected to end by Friday afternoon with temperatures in the mid-50s. Saturday should bring clearing skies and warmer temperatures in the mid-60s.
