Two Gainesville men were arrested last week for fabricating an account of a home invasion, Hall authorities said Friday.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded Jan. 7 to a report of an armed robbery and false imprisonment in the 2000 block of Spring Road in Gainesville.

Will Thompson Boykin, 44, and David Scott Bonds, 39, told officers that three armed men entered their home on Spring Street, tied them up and ransacked their home.

“The pair told investigators that they escaped and drove to the Gainesville Police Department. Finding the facility closed, they went across the street to a motel and called Hall County dispatch,” Deputy Chad Mann said in a news release.

Investigators determined the pair made up the story, citing a need for shelter from cold weather.

Bonds and Boykin were each charged with false report of a crime and booked into the Hall County Jail without incident. A $1,000 bond was set for each.
