Sheriffs office issues warrant in robbery, shooting

Hall County Sheriff’s officials have issued an arrest warrant for Latwan T. Weathington, 30, of Gainesville in connection with a shooting and armed robbery on Tuesday off Browns Bridge Road.

Col. Jeff Strickland said at about 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to a 911 call from the ST&T Mobile Home Park reporting a man had been shot.

Deputies found the victim, 32-year-old Kevin Hicks, shot in the upper leg. He was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

Strickland said a man who knew Hicks was in Hicks’ home when he pulled a handgun out and demanded money. The robber struck the victim with the gun before shooting him in the leg. The robber took an undisclosed amount of cash from Hicks and fled in a car toward Browns Bridge Road.

Weathington is charged with armed robbery, aggravated battery, aggravated assault and possession of a gun by a convicted felon.

Weathington was released from prison March 15 after serving a sentence for similar charges.
