Apple iPhones valued at about $11,000 have been stolen this week at two South Hall phone stores, while the Oakwood Wal-Mart had three iPads stolen, police said.
Oakwood Police said they are looking for two men and one woman in their late teens to early 20s suspected of taking five of the phones about 11 a.m. Monday from the Verizon Wireless store at 3612 Mundy Mill Road, off Frontage Road.
The suspects entered the store, pretending to shop, when they grabbed the phones from an employee’s desk and ran out the door, Sgt. Danny Sridej said in a Wednesday news release.
The phones had an estimated value of more than $4,000.
The suspects then drove away in a white four-door Mercedes-Benz E500 with a Texas temporary tag number of 96D4209, the release states.
The same suspects, along with another woman and a juvenile, allegedly committed a similar theft at an AT&T store in Flowery Branch on Monday.
There, they took several iPhones, which had an estimated value of more than $7,000, Sridej said.
Management saw the suspects come back in the store while a Flowery Branch officer was in the store but fled when they realized they had been noticed, Flowery Branch Police said.
Sridej said once he sent out a news release on the phone thefts, the Oakwood Wal-Mart said it was the same people who stole three iPads there Monday.
Oakwood Police also have learned that the suspects in the Oakwood robbery, along with another woman and another man, are accused of committing a similar-style robbery at a Verizon Wireless store in Stone Mountain on Tuesday.
In that incident, the suspects asked an employee to use the restroom so they could “gain access to the rear of the store,” where they took several iPhones, Sridej said.
Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to call Oakwood Police at 770-534-2364.
