Rotary Club honors Ware, Black, Langman

Pam Ware, the veteran drama instructor at Gainesville High School, was honored Monday night as the Rotary Club of Gainesville’s Woman of the Year at a banquet at the Chattahoochee Country Club.

Ware, who began teaching at Gainesville in 1973, has directed students whose work has received state, national and international honors. The award was presented by Doug Carter, a Rotarian and former student.

Reuben Black, a retired airline captain, was honored as Man of the Year. Black has devoted countless hours to serving people through his volunteer efforts. He serves as a mentor to students at the alternative school. The award was presented by former Rotary president Lydia Sartain.

Doug Langman, president of the Rotary Club, was honored with the Sidney O. Smith Award, presented annually to a club member for exemplary service. Langman, who has been a member of the club for 11 years, served as sergeant at arms before being elected as president. The award was presented by last year’s winner, LeTrell Simpson.
