Rape charge dismissed in plea deal for Gainesville man
Michael Wilmont

The most serious charges — rape and aggravated sexual battery — were dismissed in a negotiated plea for a Gainesville man.

Michael Wilmont, 36, was given a 20-year sentence for aggravated assault Thursday, with the first half to be served in confinement. The rest can be served on probation.

Wilmont was originally charged in May by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office. The victim told police she woke up with Wilmont on top of her, according to testimony at an earlier hearing.

Wilmont was also sentenced to adhere to the special conditions of probation as a sex offender, according to court documents.
