Longtime coroner Marion Merck defeats challenger
Marion Merck

Facing his first challenger in many years, Marion Merck defeated Doug Forrester for another term as Hall County coroner.

Who is he: Merck has been the coroner since 1988. He is also the funeral director and manager of Memorial Park Funeral Home.

How he reacted: “I look forward to serving the people of Hall County for four more years. The medical examiner and myself have got a lot of things we want to do within the next four years.”

On the issues: Merck said he would like to get a morgue in Hall County. “Right now we’re using coolers in funeral homes and things of that nature,” Merck said in a May interview with The Times.

What’s next: There are no independent or Democratic candidates, so Merck will continue in the office in January.

Hall County Coroner
  • Marion Merck, R, incumbent: 73.59%
