A woman used a “cloned counterfeit credit card” to buy a carton of cigarettes at an Oakwood gas station, police said.

Oakwood Police are asking the public for help identifying the woman, who went to three businesses in Oakwood and Gainesville Jan. 29.

“The cloned credit card was encoded with information stolen from a victim’s account,” Investigator Todd Templeton wrote in an email.

Gainesville Police are working the case with Templeton’s department.

“We do not yet know how the card was cloned, just that the victim had possession of the original card and the suspect was seen on video using a card that charged the victim’s account,” Templeton said.

The suspect’s transactions were declined at two Gainesville gas stations.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call Oakwood Police at 770-534-2364.
