Piedmont College names new police chief

J. Marie Griffin-Taylor, a former deputy sheriff and school resource officer with the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office and an officer with the Clarkesville Police Department, has been named the new Piedmont College police chief. She will begin her new job as chief for Piedmont’s Demorest and Athens campuses on Dec. 5.

Griffin-Taylor also has worked as an officer with the Habersham County Board of Education and with the Mount Airy Police Department. She earned a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from Columbus State University and a master’s degree in public administration from Walden University.

Griffin-Taylor takes over from interim Piedmont College Police Chief Dick Martin, who will continue to work part-time in the department.
