Some parking spots in downtown Gainesville were blocked off Thursday, April 26, in preparation for the Saturday, April 28, Spring Chicken Festival and will remain closed through the festival.

Spring Street was closed as of Friday afternoon. City officials said the square will be closed at 5 a.m. Saturday, including Spring and Bradford street. All vehicles must be off the streets by then or risk being towed.

Washington Street and Main Street will remain open and people can access the parking decks, Gainesville spokeswoman Catiel Felts said.

The Spring Chicken Festival runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday with chicken samples, recycled art and a kids zone.
