Gainesville Police have arrested one man and are seeking another in connection with a nonfatal shooting that occurred the night before Thanksgiving.

Lt. Brian Kelly said Jimmy Ward, 22, of Gainesville was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault. Ward is believed to be one of three people who fired gunshots from a car while in the Cloverdale Street area on the night of Nov. 21.

Police have secured additional arrest warrants for 22-year-old Deangelo Martinez Hatcher of Gainesville on the same charges. He remains at large, Kelly said. Investigators are still trying to identify a third suspect in the shooting.

Police believe the men were in the neighborhood to try to buy marijuana and decided to rob unidentified drug dealers. Witnesses told police the men began randomly firing from inside the car.

Andrew Hester, 19, was struck in the foot by the gunfire, police said. He was treated and released at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Another victim, 34-year-old Torris Davison, reported that the shooters fired at him but missed.

Police also found bullet holes in two cars and a house, Kelly said.
