Georgia State Patrol officials identified Gainesville resident Bill Smith, 61, as the man killed in an early Sunday morning North Hall car accident.

Smith was alone in his vehicle, traveling northbound on Price Road, when he reportedly went off the roadway and struck a tree.

State patrol received the call at 12:51 a.m. and said Smith was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

Though officials are unsure what caused him to go off the road, they say alcohol was not a factor.
