No kids were onboard one of Hall County Schools’ buses when it was involved in a wreck with another vehicle Tuesday afternoon.

Georgia State Patrol responded to the incident that occurred around 1:45 p.m. Oct. 23, on Athens Highway/U.S. 129 south of Gillsville Highway in East Hall.

State patrol Cpl. Josh Hedden said the bus driver, Sheila Janney, 55, of Talmo, failed to maintain her lane while heading southbound on Athens Highway. The bus crossed the center line and entered the northbound lane, where Graciela Mercado, 63, of Gainesville was driving a Dodge Caravan with a juvenile passenger.

The bus struck the Dodge Caravan on its left side.

Mercado had visible injuries, but the passenger and Janney did not.

Hall County Schools spokesman Gordon Higgins said Mercado and the child were transported by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Hospital officials said Mercado is in satisfactory condition.

Janney was cited for failure to maintain lane.
