New Years Eve quiet on Hall County, Gainesville streets

New Year’s Eve proved to be a rather tame night for local law enforcement.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office reported only one DUI, though several drivers were arrested for suspended licenses and having outstanding warrants.

“It was a slow night for law enforcement,” Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Nicole Bailes said. “Deputies encountered more taxis and designated drivers this holiday season.”

The same was mostly the case in the city of Gainesville.

“Officers were busy answering disturbance calls, which is typical with celebratory fireworks,” said police department spokesman Kevin Holbrook, adding that there were only a handful of DUI arrests made. “It appears it was a calm one.”

Elsewhere in the state a woman was wounded by a stray bullet that police suspect was fired to celebrate New Year’s Day.
