BRASELTON — Soon, Road Atlanta and Lanier National Speedway may not be the only places in Braselton to see a good car race.

Daniel T. Moore of Monroe has submitted plans to Braselton officials to build a multipurpose kart racing track in Jackson County off Jesse Cronic Road in Park 85.

The property’s zoning classification is manufacturing-distribution, and Moore wants to use the property for an outdoor amusement or recreation attraction.

The Braselton Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the request at 7 p.m. Monday. The Braselton Town Council will hold a public hearing on the proposal at 4 p.m. Sept. 10 and is expected to vote on the issue at its 7 p.m. meeting on Sept. 14.

Moore is seeking a conditional use permit to construct the "Georgia Karting Track," which he proposes will be used for racing kart rental, kart club racing, professional kart racing, small motorcycle racing, small purpose built racecar racing and other special events.

Plans call for the main track to be .66 miles, "Track A" to be .34 miles and "Track B" to be .32 miles, all of which will be 27 feet wide.

Four buildings also are being proposed, including a 3,000-square-foot, two-story clubhouse, a 3,000-square-foot kart shop with a mezzanine, 100 garages, all 10-by-15 feet, and a 20-by-125 foot covered grid.

The property is owned by Duke Realty Limited Partnership out of Duluth and is 17.05 acres.

Park 85, a mixed-use, master-planned business park, is accessible via both Ga. 53 and Interstate 85. It currently includes Progressive Lighting’s corporate headquarters and Mitsubishi Digital Electronics.
