A Buford man was killed Friday after his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck in South Hall County.

The accident happened around 2:40 p.m. on McEver Road as Matthew Millwood, 22, was driving his pickup north and attempted a left turn onto Radford Road.

Millwood of Flowery Branch and the motorcycle driver traveling south on McEver Road at the time hit head on.

The victim died after he was taken from the scene to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in critical condition.

“We’ve confirmed it was a fatality,” said Sgt. Kiley Sargent, spokesman for the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

The man’s identity was being withheld until the family could be notified.

Deputies redirected traffic as the Georgia State Patrol investigated the accident. Trooper Mike Talton, who described how the accident happened, did not give any information about a possible cause.

“It’s too early for any kind of speed analysis,” he said.

Millwood suffered only minor scrapes and scratches from the accident. He remained on the scene, surrounded by family members, until a tow truck removed both vehicles at about 4:45 p.m.

Gasoline fumes remained in the air two hours after the crash. Debris and glass were scattered throughout the intersection.

The front wheel, handlebars and windshield of the motorcycle were destroyed; the hood of the maroon Ford pick-up smashed upward toward the driver’s side.

Talton said there was no reason to initiate a field sobriety test on the scene and that testing Millwood’s blood was based on his consent.

When the tow truck moved out, Millwood followed Talton and boarded the trooper’s cruiser.
