A ruptured gas line led to a brief scare at McEver Arts Academy on Wednesday.
“There is a car wash behind the school there on McEver Road ... one of those self-serve car washes that was being demolished,” said Gordon Higgins, director of community relations. “During the demolition they ruptured a gas line, and that’s what caused the odor of gas to permeate part of the school.”
Some pre-kindergarten students were moved to the front of the school, but most of the students had already left the building for the day. The incident occurred around 3 p.m.
Emergency workers have been out to check gas levels. Nothing was detected.
“All is well,” Higgins said.
