A man trying to enter the grounds of West Hall High School was taken into custody Friday afternoon following an altercation with the school resource officer, according to district spokesman Gordon Higgins.
“According to initial reports, the man became belligerent and the security guard called the SRO for assistance,” Higgins said. “Following an altercation with the SRO, the man was taken into custody.
The incident occurred about 11:30 a.m. according to Deputy Nicole Bailes, spokeswoman for Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
She said the man was stopped at the front gate by school security, where he “had become agitated and belligerent in addition to exposing himself and urinating in the parking lot.”
Added Bailes: “These actions forced the deputy to call for further assistance from patrol. Patrol officers responded to the school and attempted to detain the subject when the subject became combative.”
The man was then detained “and officers determined that the subject was suffering from a medical episode.”
He was evaluated on scene by medical personnel and transported to a medical center for evaluation by family members.
Bailes said charges will not be filed due to the circumstances of the man’s condition at the time of the incident.
At no time were students or staff in harm's way during this incident, she said.
