A man has died following a single-vehicle wreck Saturday morning on Thompson Bridge Road, according to Gainesville Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook.

Holbrook said that around 9:30 a.m. Gainesville Police responded to the crash, which occurred at the bridge.

“The initial investigation revealed the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to flip multiple times,” Holbrook said, adding that the driver — the vehicle’s only occupant — was ejected.

The driver was critically injured and transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, “where he succumbed to his injuries.”

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of family. Gainesville Police is investigating the incident.

The accident backed up traffic on the highway as police worked to clear the scene.
