A North Hall man was in extremely critical condition Friday night after being struck in the head with a stick during a fight with his stepbrother, authorities said.

Hall County Sheriff’s Col. Jeff Strickland said deputies were called to a domestic disturbance at a mobile home at 4426 Ledan Extension at about 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Officers found 36-year-old Steven Paul Brookshire lying unconscious in a yard outside the trailer suffering from an apparent head injury, Strickland said.

Witnesses told authorities that Brookshire and his stepbrother, 26-year-old William Richard Gable, had been quarreling prior to the fight. At some point during the fight, Brookshire was struck with a stick, Strickland said.

Because of the severity of his injuries, Brookshire was airlifted via helicopter to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, where he remained in critical condition Friday night.

Gable was taken to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office for questioning and later charged with aggravated battery under the Georgia Family Violence Act. He remains in the Hall County Jail without bond.
