A Gainesville man is accused of choking a woman and throwing her to the ground at an East Hall residence. After he was arrested, the woman disclosed an alleged rape to the deputies.
Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Derreck Booth said investigators looked into a domestic incident between Monday, Jan. 7, and Wednesday, Jan. 9, involving a woman and Robert Lee Brookshire, 44.
Booth said Brookshire is accused of “choking her with his hands and hitting her with a closed fist” as well as throwing the woman to the ground.
Brookshire was originally charged Thursday, Jan. 10, with aggravated assault and misdemeanor battery, both of which were considered under the Family Violence Act.
“Following Mr. Brookshire’s arrest on Thursday, (Jan. 10), the victim disclosed the rape to deputies,” Booth wrote in an email.
Investigators obtained the rape warrant on Friday, Jan. 11, which Booth said is related to the same incident.
No bond has been set at this time, and defense attorney Brett Willis declined to comment Monday, Jan. 14.
The case is still under investigation.
