A man is accused of hitting a Gainesville Police officer in the head multiple times with handcuffs while being arrested, police said.

Gainesville Police Cpl. Jessica Van said Eric Dante Pitt, 37, was not allowed on the HomeTowne Studios property on Jesse Jewell Parkway. After Officer Stephen Lucius encountered Pitt multiple times Saturday, Feb. 16, on the property, Lucius tried to arrest him.

“Pitt struck our officer in the head multiple times with handcuffs, causing a laceration to the officer’s head that required medical attention,” Van wrote in an email.

Van said Lucius is recovering after receiving stitches.

Pitt was charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer, terroristic threats and acts, criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and obstruction of an officer.

He was booked in to the Hall County Jail, where he remains.
