Every year, Anastacia Rodriguez and her husband John grow watermelons to share with the Gainesville-Hall County Senior Center. This year's crop was a beauty, and it took John and two other men to get this melon into the trunk of Anastacia's car. Gloria Wilms, coordinator at the center, said they would cut it up and serve it to everyone at the center that day.

What she grew: A watermelon weighing in at more than 100 pounds.

Why she decided to grow it: "I always bring one to the Senior Center," Anastacia said. "I brought one last year, it was smaller than this."

Does it require any special care: "No, just love - and a hand," she said, pointing at her "green" thumb. "This year we didn't have no water, so we put (rain) barrels out."

How the plant will be used: It will be shared among the guests at the Senior Center.

Would she grow it again: "Every year - we do the same thing every year," Anastacia said.
