Upward of 30 residents were evacuated Friday night when a fire damaged several units at Edgewater Apartments on Thompson Bridge Road in Gainesville.

No injuries, however, were reported and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

The Gainesville Fire Department responded about 11 p.m. and found flames visible from a third-floor apartment in building A. The fire was quickly extinguished, but 12 units were evacuated for precautionary measures.

One apartment suffered heavy fire damage, and several other apartments received water and smoke damage.

The Red Cross assisted some residents with housing and other residents report they are staying with family or friends.

The Fire Department said the apartment manager is working to find housing for its tenants who were evacuated until repairs can be made to the affected units.

The fire was reported by a neighbor who saw the flames, called 911 and helped alert other residents to the danger.
