A jury will deliberate this morning on the second defendant in an animal cruelty case, two days after another defendant was acquitted, according to court officials.

Matthew Motes, of Gainesville, was acquitted of all charges Wednesday night. His father, Dewayne Motes, had his trial begin Thursday.

According to authorities, the Gainesville men were accused of going to a Benson Drive residence, where Dewayne Motes had been bitten by a man’s dog. Matthew Motes was accused of shooting and killing the dog, but his attorney argued the shooting was justified.
