NEW YORK — Five stores in Georgia, but none in North Georgia, among the 138 locations J.C. Penney announced Friday it will shutter in the coming months as the retailer seeks to cut costs and improve its profitability. The Georgia closures will include stores at Dublin Mall in Dublin, Macon Mall in Macon, Milledgeville Mall in Milledgeville, Gateway Plaza in Thomasville and Tifton Mall in Tifton. Like other department stores, J.C. Penney Co. is hurting as more people shop online instead of heading to the mall.
