Higher level on Lanier pleases residents
0314lake
Workers make their way across the docks at Gainesville Marina in the blustery winds Wednesday afternoon. Lake Lanier is now up to 1,068 feet above sea level, just two feet below winter full pool, and the highest it’s been since June 2011.
Three months ago, lake watchers were wringing their hands over the ever-dropping water level at Lake Lanier. The lake had dropped to 1,056.33 feet above sea level on Dec. 18, nearly 14 feet below the winter full pool of 1,070 feet and just 6 feet above the historic low of 1,050.79 feet on Dec. 26, 2007. What a difference three months makes.
