Subway is bringing extra freshness to Gainesville, and it’s not just the ingredients.
With the recent opening of a Subway on 3623 Mount Vernon Road, near the Kroger shopping center, franchise owner Mike Hylton offers a new concept to the fast food chain.
When people arrive at this Subway, they’re met with a modernized take on the old look.
A giant LED-illuminated “S” greets customers when they walk in, and new chairs and tables — equipped with electrical outlets — fill up the dining area. Giant windows cover the front of the building, a digital menu stretches near the ceiling and a light shade of green paints the walls.
“Normal Subways are pretty dull, dark and boring, but now it’s brighter and more lively,” Tim Haney, regional manager said.
The kitchen and sandwich-making station also received an upgrade with new toasters, ovens and a produce display to show all of the vegetables used at the business.
“It’s to bring the concept ‘eat fresh’ out,” Johnny McBrayer, the store’s manager said. “Everything is done fresh everyday.”
People have the choice between 45 beverages at the freestyle drink machine.
The updated menu now includes gluten-free bread and additional sauces, and grinders are used for herbs instead of the typical shakers.
Haney said all of the new Subways will reflect the modern concept, which was released to the U.S. in January.
“I hope they (Hall County residents) see that we’re here to stay and make it right for the community,” he said.
The Subway up the hill from the new Mount Vernon Road location closed down and moved its staff to the contemporary building.
McBrayer, who has worked with Subway for 18 years, said he has never seen an upgrade this drastic with the fast food restaurant. Since holding a soft opening on May 8, he has received positive comments from customers about the interior.
During his time at Subway in Gainesville, McBrayer has given high-schoolers their first jobs and watched kids grow into adults. He said he’s excited to continue supporting the community at the new location.
“Come in and have a good time with us,” McBrayer said. “Tell us what we can do to make it even brighter in the next 10 years.”
Subway is open every day from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. For more information about the Mount Vernon Road location call 770-536-4171.
