A Hall County Sheriff’s deputy is on administrative leave after being arrested in Habersham County early Thursday.

Stephen Weiler, 31, of Demorest was arrested and charged with one count of simple battery following a domestic dispute with his wife, according to a report from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

Weiler was booked Thursday into the Habersham County Jail, and later released after posting a $1,200 bond.

A four-year employee of the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Weiler is currently assigned to the Court Services Division as a court security officer. Weiler spent most of his career at the Hall County Detention Center, Hall County Sheriff’s Maj. Jeff Strickland said.

The Habersham County Sheriff notified the Hall County Sheriff’s Office of the arrest this morning, and Weiler has been placed on temporary administrative leave pending an internal investigation by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

The agency’s internal affairs unit will look into the incident to see if Weiler broke any laws or violated agency policy, Strickland said.
