The Hall County Board of Education on Monday approved the resignation of a Chestatee High School basketball coach arrested last week on a felony sexual assault charge.
Webster Demetrius Daniel, 42, of Oakwood allegedly “engaged in unwanted sexual contact with a juvenile female enrolled as a student” at the high school on Nov. 16, according to a Hall County Sheriff’s Office press release.
Daniel, coach of the War Eagles’ girls basketball team, was suspended by school administrators Nov. 17 and his case turned over to law enforcement. He later submitted his resignation.
School district spokesman Gordon Higgins said the allegations were first reported on the morning of Nov. 17.
A school resource officer, who is an employee of the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, took a statement from the student and forwarded it to the sheriff’s office.
Superintendent Will Schofield told The Times that school officials would continue to cooperate and support the law enforcement investigation, and would turn over personnel files and other related documents for review by a state agency that licenses educators.
Schofield also said the school district would continue to do its “due diligence” to “make sure we have gotten to the bottom” of what transpired and that any assistance the alleged victim requires would be provided.
