The Hall County Sheriff's Office deputy injured in a four-vehicle crash Tuesday night was treated and released from the hospital hours after the wreck, deputies said.
Officer Nichlos Parrish is expected to return to normal duty Friday, which is the regular beginning of his work week, said Col. Jeff Strickland, Sheriff's Office spokesman.
Parrish, who has been with the department for more than three years, was driving south on Candler Road to the scene of another accident near the Lee Land Road intersection when his accident occurred at Construction Drive around 6 p.m.
Five people were injured and four vehicles damaged in the officer-involved crash, said Georgia State Patrol trooper Jim Claxton, with all but one person transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. The accident remains under investigation, he said. Claxton did not give any details about the cause or the names of the other people injured.
The front end of the deputy's patrol car was heavily damaged in the wreck.
The exact circumstances of the first accident were unclear, as well. Three vehicles were involved, and three people injured in the crash, which occurred about one-tenth of a mile ahead of the deputy's wreck on Candler Road south, Claxton said.
GSP is in charge of investigating the first accident at Lee Land Road, which officers on Tuesday night called a serious injury collision. The investigating trooper couldn't be reached Wednesday.
Candler Road was shut down for about an hour and a half after the accidents, Claxton said, with troopers working longer than that to piece together the scene.
The Sheriff's Office also expects to study the wreck involving Parrish through a special board assigned to this task.
"Any time an employee of the Sheriff's Office is involved in an accident, by policy the accident is reviewed by the accident review board," Strickland said.
Various officers, whose ranks and assignments differ, occupy positions on the board. They investigate the matter and make determinations of who is at fault before deciding on how, if at all, to reprimand a deputy, Strickland said.
Recommendations are then made to the deputy's commander, he said.
