Hall County board to delay decision on master plan

Hall County officials may put off an update of the county's master plan.

The decision, if made at today's meeting of the Hall County Board of Commissioners, will mean the county can hold on to $150,000 in a tight budget year.

On the consent agenda for the meeting today is a proposal to defer an update to the county's comprehensive plan for two years.

Originally, county officials were to begin the process this year and adopt the update in June 2012.

Gainesville planning officials have been moving forward with the city's update, despite the state-allowed flexibility.

"I think that the amount of change that we have seen in the city since we last updated the plan in 2004 has been very substantial," said Community Development Director Rusty Ligon. "...We felt like, with the amount of change that we experienced, that now was a good time to update that plan."

The cost for the city's update is the same as the county's, Ligon said.
