Georgia Mountains Regional Commission selects new officers

George Wangemann has served on the Gainesville City Council since 1987.

The Georgia Mountains Regional Commission council members selected new officers May 31 for two-year terms to begin July 1, 2019, and end on June 30, 2021.  

The chairman-elect is Dahlonega Mayor Sam Norton. Gainesville City Councilman George Wangemann will serve as vice chair. Ken Schubring of Baldwin will serve as secretary.  Norton has been a part of the Dahlonega City Council since 2006, when he also joined the GMRC.

Wangemann has served on the Gainesville City Council since 1986. He has been secretary of the GMRC Council for the last four years and was the 2018 Council Member of the Year.

Schubring is the corporate facilities manager for Fieldale Farms and has served as the private sector representative from Habersham County on the GMRC Council since 2013.

“All three of our newest officers embody the spirit of community and bring talent, expertise and energy to the Regional Commission. We are very fortunate to have them by our side," said GMRC Executive Director Heather Feldman.   

The Georgia Mountains Regional Commission is one of 12 planning and development districts in Georgia focused on providing technical assistance to 13 counties and 38 municipalities in the areas of planning, economic development, information services and technology and workforce development.
