The Georgia Military Veterans Hall of Fame, Georgia Department of Veterans Service and Georgia Building Authority have agreed to have the hall of fame initially located in the Floyd Veterans Memorial Building on the state capitol grounds.

“This is a dream come true,” said retired Col. Paul Longgrear of Pine Mountain, who is the founder and director of the Hall of Fame. “We are actually going to be located on the grounds where all the war memorials are located at the state capitol.”

The GMVHOF began in February 2013 and in its first two years inducted 34 Georgians from the Civil War to current wars.

Nominations are down this year, and the hall of fame is seeking more. Requirements for nomination are: honorably discharged from military service DD 214 form or other pertinent documents, born or entered the military from the state of Georgia, or if the nominee has lived in Georgia for 10 or more continuous years. Nominations may be made in one of three categories: valor, achievement or service.

Nomination packets and instructions can be downloaded from www.gmvhof.org. Nomination packets must be mailed no later than Aug. 28 to PO Box 475, Pine Mountain, GA 31822.

Additionally, those desiring to make tax-deductible donations may send them to the same address.
