Gainesville City Schools students will be in class an extra day next month to replace time missed due to snow and ice.
The April 4 date is the Friday before students and teachers get a week off for spring break, and was previously on the calendar as a vacation day.
Superintendent Merrianne Dyer said students or employees with previous travel plans would not be penalized.
Gainesville school officials canceled classes four days in both January and February because of winter weather.
The board of education previously reinstated March 17 as a full school day, Students were also called back to the classroom Feb. 17.
Dyer has said previously some of the time missed will also be made up during reinstated furlough days.
“Are there some discussions about changing the (Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests) testing week window?” board member Sammy Smith asked, referring to the standardized tests students take annually.
“We had discussed that,” Dyer replied. “We are of the opinion that we are going to be ready on the regular dates, and we’re better served to go ahead and give it then.”
The testing dates for Gainesville City Schools are April 21-25.
The Hall County School District changed the testing window for the county schools during the February board of education meeting, to May 1-2 and then May 6-8.
