More than $26,000 in refunds hasn’t been claimed for water accounts with the Gainesville Public Utilities Department, according to a news release from the city.
“We have exhausted all efforts to get in touch with the customers on the list,” said Tina Wetherford, finance and administration division manager. “We really hope some of these people will come forward so we can settle their accounts and not have to turn this money over to the state.”
The refunds date back to 2007, she said. Accounts prior to that were turned over to the state, per state regulations.
