Gainesville Police brought back a pair of awards from the Golden Shield Honors hosted by Mothers Against Drunk Driving Tuesday, April 23, at the Cobb Galleria.

Gainesville Police brought back a pair of awards from the Golden Shield Honors hosted by Mothers Against Drunk Driving Tuesday, April 23, at the Cobb Galleria.

The department was recognized as the statewide agency of the year, an award for the department “that has demonstrated excellence in implementing innovative techniques in the detection and deterrence of traffic violations, DUI and underage drinking prevention,” according to a news release from Gainesville Police.

The local police also earned the Golden Achievement Award for “outstanding expertise in the field of traffic safety, DUI prevention, and/or community intervention that made a significant contribution to MADD’s mission and Georgia traffic safety in 2018,” according to the news release.
