Gainesville police charge man with two 2018 drive-by shootings

Gainesville police have made an arrest in connection with two 2018 shootings.

Investigators with the Gainesville Police Department obtained warrants Thursday, Sept. 12, on Jose Manuel Maldonado, 23 of Winder, for two drive-by shootings, according to Sgt. Kevin Holbrook. 

Maldonado was charged with five counts of aggravated assault, Holbrook wrote in an emailed release. Maldonado was taken into custody in Winder and booked into the Hall County Jail, where he remains. 

Police said that in July 2018, Maldonado committed two shootings, one on Monroe Drive and another on Spring Haven Drive. During the Spring Haven Drive incident a 26-year-old man was shot, receiveing non-life-threatening injuries. 

Maldonado is the second person charged in the crime. Police previously arrested and charged Anthony Dequon Thomas. 

The cases remain under investigation.
