A Gainesville man pleaded guilty on Monday to child sex abuse charges and was sentenced to life in prison, District Attorney Lee Darragh said.

Corey Dave Smith was charged with several felonies, including aggravated child molestation, child molestation and enticement of a child for indecent purposes.

At minimum, he must serve 37 years in prison. If granted parole, he will be on probation for life, Darragh said.

Northeastern Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Jason Deal accepted the plea on Monday and handed down the sentence Tuesday in Hall County court.

Smith, along with his wife, Brittany Lee Smith, were charged in October with aggravated child molestation in connection with incidents involving a 14-year-old girl, authorities reported.

The incidents happened between Aug. 1 and Sept. 20 in the Sardis area of northwestern Hall County, said Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks, Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
