MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Montgomery police say a 28-year-old woman is dead and two people, including a Gainesville man, are injured after a fatal multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 85 that snarled rush-hour traffic for hours.

Police identified the victim in Wednesday's wreck as 28-year-old Jessica Michelle McMillan from Monroeville.

Authorities say McMillan was a passenger in a tractor-trailer carrying logs that overturned after colliding with an SUV and two other vehicles.

Police say the accident was caused when a pickup truck swerved into the emergency lane because of a flat tire, causing the tractor-trailer carrying McMillan to hit the SUV and then collide with another tractor-trailer and a sedan.

Injured were 48-year-old Carl Richard Brown of Gainesville, Ga., driving the second tractor-trailer and 45-year-old Terri Darlene Ross of Montgomery, who was driving the sedan. Their conditions are not known.
