Gainesville man dies in wreck

A Gainesville man was killed and a woman and child injured seriously in a Friday evening wreck on Poplar Springs Road in South Hall.

Clinton Carroll, 73, was driving east on Poplar Springs when he crossed the centerline and struck a vehicle traveling west, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Carroll died in the wreck, which happened at about 6 p.m. The driver of the other vehicle, Cynthia Madrigal, was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. She is in stable condition, according to the state patrol.

A 2-year-old girl in Madrigal’s car was flown to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston with serious injuries, according to the state patrol. No further update was available on the child’s condition.

Funeral services for Carroll are scheduled for today at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Gainesville.

A U.S. Air Force veteran and a retiree who had worked many years at Cargill, Carroll is survived by his wife and seven brothers and sisters.
