The Gainesville City Council is set to approve the school board's tax rate Tuesday.
The Board of Education reduced the rate it charges property owners in Gainesville to 7.39 mills, cutting 0.30 mills as it realized the board was in better financial standing.
One mill equals $1 for each $1,000 in assessed property value.
Though the city government and the school board are separate government entities, the city sends out the school board's tax bills and the City Council must approve the board's tax rate.
The council is set to adopt the rate at its 5:30 p.m. Tuesday meeting.
City tax bills will be mailed on Oct. 20.
