Gainesville attorney John Breakfield announces run for State Court bench
2 candidates now in race to replace Charles Wynne

A Gainesville attorney announced Wednesday his intent to run for the Hall County State Court judgeship.

John Breakfield enters a field of two candidates for the seat on the bench held by Chief State Court Judge Charles Wynne. Wynne announced in December that he would vacate the position.

“I want to serve Hall County as State Court Judge because I believe in making our community a better place,” Breakfield said in a statement.

In addition to his Gainesville law firm, Breakfield also serves as the Gainesville Municipal Court solicitor. He was appointed in 2015 by Gov. Nathan Deal to the State of Georgia Judicial Nominating Commission, a group that looks at candidates for judgeships throughout Georgia.

In his announcement, Breakfield established himself as a constitutional conservative holding to a strict interpretation of the written laws.

“In our system of government, with three equal branches, I believe a judge’s role is limited,” Breakfield said.  “No judge should attempt to make law or legislate from the bench.”

Michelle Hall announced her candidacy earlier this month.
